Hradec Králové, 16 January 2025

At the end of January and the beginning of February, the Hradec Králové City Transport Company will deploy 12 new vehicles on public transport lines. The IVECO Urbanway 18 M Diesel hybrid will replace the IVECO Citelis vehicles produced in 2005-2009. „This is a breakthrough moment when, in addition to diesel cars, trolleybuses and electric buses, a new group of vehicles powered by a combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor is being created in the transport company,“ says Deputy Mayor of Hradec Králové responsible for transport Ing. Miroslav Hloušek. The average age of public transport vehicles in Hradec Králové is now less than eight years. Thanks to this, the Hradec Králové fleet is among the most modern in Europe. The investment of CZK 157 million incl. VAT was paid by the transport company entirely from its own resources. The new vehicles will be symbolically put into operation on Thursday 23 January at 10:00 a.m. in the main premises of the transport company in Pouchovská Street.

From the passenger's point of view, the new articulated buses offer maximum comfort. With a total length of 18 m, the coach offers 36 seats and 89 standing places. It is fully air-conditioned. Thermal comfort in winter and hot summer is enhanced by a push-button door opening system on demand. The car also has an integrated camera system and a trio of information screens. The electric battery, an internal combustion diesel engine, contributes to propulsion and battery charge is increased by regeneration from braking. The engine compartment and traction battery are equipped with a self-extinguishing system. „The car can switch off the engine when stopping at traffic lights, for example, to reduce emissions. This is actually a start-stop system known from passenger cars,“ adds Zdeněk Abraham, director of the transport company.

The cars also feature ADAS, which brings a range of advanced driver assistance features to improve road safety. The safety features are designed to enhance protection for passengers, pedestrians and cyclists. The driver has better identification of blind spots, warnings of potential collisions with pedestrians or cyclists and tyre pressure monitoring.

The new hybrid cars will be symbolically put into operation during a short ceremony attended by the Hradec Králové city administration and the transport company on Thursday 23 January at 10:00 in the garage of the DPMHK headquarters in Pouchovská Street. They will be gradually deployed on public transport lines at the turn of January and February.
